Adds Durable Water Repellency; reducing weight gain and maintaining the breathability of cotton, polycotton and canvas, in wet weather.
Cotton is a natural fiber; as such, it is renewable, biodegradable and can be produced organically. It is highly versatile and can be used to produce many fabrics, each with different properties. Additionally, cotton can be blended with synthetic fibers, such as polyester, to combine the desirable properties of both materials.
Cotton fabrics are breathable, absorbent and strong. They are used in the manufacture of clothing and outdoor equipment, but are not inherently water repellent.
Your cotton items could be soaking up water just because they are dirty. First, try cleaning them with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and if they are fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalized just from cleaning. But once items have been thoroughly used, you will need to add DWR using Nikwax Cotton Proof™, after cleaning first with Nikwax Tech Wash®.
Nikwax Cotton Proof™ has been specifically designed and optimized for breathable cotton, polycotton and canvas materials; it leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on individual fibers allowing moisture vapor to pass through, maintaining breathability, prolonging the life of gear and optimizing performance in wet weather.
Nikwax Cotton Proof™ is easy and quick to apply in a washing machine and ensures that the treatment goes right through the garment. The highly Durable Water Repellency (DWR) of Nikwax Cotton Proof™ develops on air drying. Therefore the need for tumble drying is removed, saving energy.
For best results always clean item(s) first with Nikwax Tech Wash® in a separate wash cycle. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.
Top Loading Machine Wash:
- Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.
- Place item(s) in washing machine (max. 3 items).
- After the machine has filled with water use:
- 3fl oz/100ml (1 item), low water level
- 5fl oz/150ml (2 items), medium water level
- 7fl oz/200ml (3 items), high water level - Run heavy soil machine cycle.
- Wash according to care label.
Front Loading Machine Wash:
- Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser.
- Place clean item(s) in washing machine (max. 3 items).
- Use: 3fl oz/100ml (1-2 items) and 5fl oz/150ml (3 items).
- Wash according to care label.
Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if care label allows.
To maintain waterproofing always wash with Nikwax Tech Wash®. Do not use detergents.
